ASPEN, COLORADO

WHERE TO STAY:

We visited Aspen in the summer for a wedding, so we stayed at hotel with the best room rate for the wedding which was THE GANT (610 S W End St, Aspen, CO 81611). We rented a two bedroom condo, and it was very rustic and quaint. There are fireplaces in every living room. We absolutely loved it. The Gant

The one hotel that I noticed as we were walking around that looks really awesome is HOTEL JEROME (330 E Main St, Aspen, CO 81611). This hotel was very centrally located and is where I would want to stay if we were ever able to go back to Aspen. Hotel Jerome

FAVORITE PLACE TO EAT:

As we were in town for a wedding, most of our meals and drinking were at the wedding locations (Theatre Aspen and The Roaring Fork Club). However, we stumbled upon the cutest restaurant that deserves a mention:

THE WHITE HOUSE TAVERN (e 81611, 302 E Hopkins Ave, Aspen, CO 81611) photo credit: Rowland Broughton. This restaurant was adorable, we sat in the outdoor area to the side of the house. The menu is very small but everyone was really happy with what they ordered. Open 11am – 10 pm Sunday – Thursday, and 11am – 11pm Friday – Saturday. White House Tavern

THINGS TO DO:

MAROON BELLS – There are guided tours throughout the day that you can take from Aspen. However, if you visit Maroon Bells early in the morning (before 8am) or late in the day (after 5pm), you can bring your own car for $10/vehicle. That is what we did. I’m not a morning person and I would definitely recommend going early and riding in your own car. You also miss most of the crowds. Plus, the mountains reflect off the lake beautifully early in the morning. We also hiked the MAROON LAKE SCENIC TRAIL up to CRATER LAKE. (3.6 miles roundtrip, moderate). All of the websites online list this trail as “easy” however, we found this trail to be moderately difficult. The trail and Crater Lake were beautiful, but Maroon Bells was the highlight of this trip. Tip: You are able to park right at Maroon Bells and reach it without any hiking. If you’d prefer to take the bus, tickets are sold at the base area of Aspen Highlands.  Maroon Bells

THEATRE ASPEN (470 Rio Grande Pl, Aspen, CO 81611) – this is where the rehearsal dinner was located, and it happened to be gorgeous. I would definitely recommend stopping by and checking this out, the flowers are so colorful and beautiful. Theatre Aspen

INDEPENDENCE PASS (SCENIC DRIVE) – this road is the scenic way into Aspen and the views at the top are incredible. It was absolutely gorgeous but I will admit, I was white knuckling it the entire time. I am so glad we did it, but we definitely took the less scenic route on the trip back to Denver. Tip: take dramamine if you get car sick easily.
